JDK support contract between Oracle and SAP was terminated by Oracle (effective 31.12.2013)

Reason

The JDK support contract between Oracle and SAP was terminated by Oracle (effective 31.12.2013).

The agreement covered support for Oracle JDKs and JREs incorporated in SAP products and running on "General Purpose Desktop Computers and Servers" as defined in the Oracle Binary Code License Agreement for the Java SE Platform Products (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/terms/license/index.html). The Java SE releases were supported for 10 years after the general availability of the first release of a release family, so that till the end of 2013 Java SE 5, 6 and 7 were covered by the agreement.

Due to Oracle's termination of the agreement, SAP cannot provide Oracle JDK support coverage starting from January 2014.

This means that from 2014 on, there is no

  • no special Oracle JDK support channel via SAP
  • no SAP-specific download site for Oracle JDKs that are no longer publicly available

Solution

SAP has built a JDK, called SAP JVM, which covers all JDK releases starting with version 1.4.2. It can be used in most scenarios with SAP products and is fully supported by SAP. For example, SAP JVM has been used by SAP NetWeaver for years; especially several thousand SAP NetWeaver 7.0 and 2004 Web AS Java systems have been migrated successfully to SAP JVM since 2011. Newer SAP NetWeaver releases run on the SAP JVM exclusively. For more information about SAP JVM, see http://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/display/ASJAVA/SAP+JVM.

In case an Oracle JDK is still to be used, new Oracle JDKs are publicly available on Oracle's general JDK download site; the following is provided for courtesy reasons and not any SAP offering or based on any SAP obligation: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html. Here you may find a link to an archive of previous releases. For these releases no patches are available without a corresponding support contract with Oracle. You may search for known errors and report bugs via Oracle's bug database (http://bugs.sun.com). Oracle's JDK support roadmap is outlined on http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/eol-135779.html.

For SAP product-specific information concerning the recommended JDK usage look at the references to SAP Notes in this document. In case of product-specific questions open a message on the related component. Please carefully check, whether or not you need a separate legal agreement between you and Oracle so that your solution is supported properly.
